The simulator will be able to simulate the injection molding process from beginning to end. If the injection molding parameters are correct, the simulation will stop after one cycle with no plastic material remaining in the mold. If the simulation does not stop at the correct time, the application software will allow the user to make changes to the injection molding parameters.
Injection molding is a highly automated process and is not normally possible to stop. However, the injection molding contact manufacturer or plastic injection molding contact manufacturer will include instructions with the simulator to disable the injection molding machine. This means that the plastic material can be unloaded from the mold cavity and will only be injected when the simulation is restarted.
The simulator program will contain instructions for a variety of plastic injection molding parameters and will control the speed of the injection molding machine to simulate the injection molding cycle. If one of the parameters is not met, the simulated machine will not release the correct product. The user is expected to provide the necessary data for each of the parameters required. This information is used to modify the operating parameters of the simulation program so that the parameters are met for each run.
The DFM includes instructions to run the simulator to test for low temperature cycles. If the temperature of the mold is too low, the plastic material will not be able to flow into the cavity. However, this is not a problem with an injection molding machine because once the injection molding machine has been activated, the injection molding process is normally unable to be stopped. The only way to stop the injection molding process is to open the mold and unload the plastic material.
Depending on the complexity of the problem, each run will be simulated from beginning to end to determine whether the plastic material is flowing into the mold before it has finished. As a result, the simulation program will be able to tell the operator whether the injection molding parameters are correct or whether further adjustment will be needed.
The material at the current temperature is not able to flow at a speed that is sufficient to reach all parts of the cavity. In this case, the plastic injection molding manufacturer will raise the mold temperature to allow the plastic to flow into the hard-to-reach areas of the mold.
